What is hypnobirthing (KGH)?

It is an antenatal educational programme (accredited by Royal college of Midwives), that teaches simple, practical and informative methods related with pregnancy and childbirth. This course helps to understand specific self hypnosis tools, relaxation and visualation methods and breathing techniques.  This programme aims to deliver up-to-date evidence based researched information in order to enable couple to make best informed choices for their childbirth.

Anxiety release cortisol which has effect on pregnancy , may increase the intervention during birth and bonding with baby. Therefore, I am so delighted to delivery my knowledge and experience with hypnobirthing tools and technique to empower pregnant women and their partner. This course also gives them opportunity to prepare antenatal with the understanding of physiology and impact of mind into their pregnancy experience and positive birth outcome.

History of Hypnobirthing:

“Hypnobirthing is soundly based on established medical knowledge.”

The seeds were first sown with the work of eminent obstetrician Dr.Grantly Dick-Read.  After witnessing a homebirth in the slums of the London Docks in 1913, the mother refused any pain relief and then proceeded to give birth quickly and with no pain. Grantly Dick-Read was truly amazed.

The Mothers comment after giving birth when he asked why she refused the pain relief was “It didn’t hurt. It wasn’t meant to, was it, Doctor?”  This experience was defining, and after a career of working on the battle field and in hospitals he theorized that fear was the overriding cause that led to the pain in childbirth.  At the end of his career he wrote the book “Childbirth Without Fear”.  He hypothesized that when you are fearful, you tense up and the natural birth process is inhibited and becomes longer and consequently more painful.

Over the years his theories have been fully vindicated with research into how hormones work during childbirth.  His principles have been further developed by a number of natural birth practitioners with Hypnobirthing being the most notable and widely practised.  Today Hypnobirthing is known by every midwife in the UK and many have trained in KGHypnobirthing, including professors of midwifery and NHS heads of midwifery.  It is practised interntionally and rapidly spreading throughout the world.

Concept of Pregnancy and Child-birth.

Pregnancy and birth is the most important happy event of human life. However, it include the great deal of conflicting emotions such as Joy to disbelief, worrying to excitement, fear  to courage, self-doubt to self-confidence. Due to the series of unpredictable events, dramatic birth stories, negative attitudes and comments; and also being in a culture that has set up birth to be a very medicalised event and one that is inherently dangerous, it is no wonder that worry, fear, and stress feature heavily for a pregnant woman.

It is well known that “State of mind “and “thoughts “have huge impact on our physical body. Worry,fear anxitey released the stress hormones (Adrenaline,Cortisol,Norepinephrine) which transfer to baby via placenta. It is also well documented in many studies that fear,stress and anxiety can be associated with developmental outcome in infancy and could affect brain function and behaviour. some studies showed the linked with preterm, labour, increase the outcome of c/s, IUGR and high level of stress.

Mechanism of childbirth

Adrenaline reduces the blood flow to your womb (uterus) and digestive system. Instead, your blood flows more readily to the large muscles in your limbs so that you’re ready to fight or run away.

As a result, the muscles of your womb will work less well, because they are deprived of blood and oxygen. This can make labour harder and longer. Your baby will be getting less oxygen too.

Plus, just when you most need it, the hormone that eases labour, oxytocin, is less likely to be released. Stress hormones stop your body producing oxytocin. You’ll also produce fewer of the natural hormones (endorphins) that numb pain and help you feel good.

It enables a woman to work with her body which is naturally designed to give birth. It releases the fear and negativity that she has been programmed with from an early age. It helps woman to achieve calm and comfortable birth.
